Aggies Start Season 2-1

The Aggies lost the first game of their spring season 6-8 to Rice University (D-II). The 6 fielding errors committed by Texas A&M explains why just 3 of the Owls' 8 runs were earned. Following the loss, the Aggies went on to commit only 2 errors in 12 innings, winning the following two games and the series. The 12-3 and 14-3 wins were largely due to the strong offense and consistent pitching that Texas A&M displayed. Senior Taylor Chapel was named Conference Pitcher of the Week after pitching 4 shut-out innings and striking out 10 batters.  Freshman David Rodriguez earned Conference Player of the Week honors after hitting 5-9 with a home run and 4 RBI's on the weekend. The Aggies will continue their season with two games this weekend in Austin, TX against Huston Tillotson University (NAIA).

The team previews are in, and the NCBA has posted the Preseason Top 20 Rankings. The Aggies only drop one spot to No. 5 from last season after sending off a large graduating class. With the addition of even more talent at the start of the Spring, the respectable ranking doesn't come as much of a surprise to Texas A&M players and fans. Gulf Coast Region Rival Texas Tech University made an appearance on the list at the No. 9 spot. Sam Houston State University and University of North Texas also received votes, but didn't manage to break into the top 20. The next rankings update will come out on February 10th.
